IN THREE MONTHS, AERIAL CULLING KNOCKS OUT RECORD NUMBER OF FERAL HORSES

JANUARY 30, 2024:

More than 800 feral horses have been shot from helicopters flying over Kosciuszko National Park, just months after the government trialled aerial shooting in the state for the first time in 20 years.

After years of debate, the government approved aerial shooting in late October last year. In the months since, 802 feral horses have been culled from the sky across the park, most of which were from the southern block and the Snowy Plains region

The total number of horses removed between July 1 and December 31 last year was 1923 – the most ever culled from the park in six months.

SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

The article goes on to state… The NSW government published data last year that showed there were 18,814 feral horses in the park, a sharp increase from the estimate of 14,380 horses two years before. In 2016, there were 6000 horses in the park.

We would like to point out that during an inquiry into the “proposed” shooting of Brumbies experts testified that the “official count”  used by the Government of NSW was refused a peer review by the University who designed the software used to come up with the count.

Expert after expert testified that the number of horses before this slaughter began may be less than the 3,000 a government mandate stipulates are to stay in the park.

Requests for a pause to the shooting or any method of lethal culling so that a 4-day more accurate count could be conducted were ignored.

UPDATE MARCH 2024:  MULTIPLE WITNESSES TESTIFIED THAT THE COUNT USED BY THE GOVERNMENT IS WILDLY EXAGGERATED.  Details here, here, here and here.

MARCH 20, 2024:

Australia’s iconic wild horses known as Brumbies, including pregnant mares and foals, are currently being chased by and gunned down from helicopters in the Kosciuszko National Park (KNP).

534 majestic Brumbies have been been brutally slaughtered in the KNP over the last 15 days — with approval from MP Penny Sharpe.

This horrifying number is on top of over 300 killed in the previous few weeks.

NOTE:  These 534 AND OVER 300 HORSES ARE IN ADDITION TO THE 1923 MASSACRED (AS STATED IN ARTICLE ABOVE) IN 6 MONTHS IN 2023.

YOU CAN HELP STOP THIS BARBARIC INHUMANE SLAUGHTER

A wild horse has the same capacity to feel pain and fear as a native animal, and their lives deserve the same level of dignity and respect.

We need to find a way to protect the native animals at risk, without hunting down Brumbies with helicopters, ground shooting or hauling them to be slaughtered at knackeries.

We urge you to join us in demanding the NSW government stop this cruel cull and adopt humane, non-lethal solutions.

1. Contact the PM & the MPs responsible:  Make your voice heard!  Demand an end to your tax dollars being used to massacre Brumbies.

2. Sign this petition:  Show the government the overwhelming public opposition to this barbaric practice.  BUT hurry before it's too late.

3. Contact the RSPCA NSW: Wild horses are suffering under RSPCA NSW inaction.  Take a stand.  Add your voice - fill out a quick form and urge others to join you.

4. Donate:  We are a volunteer-run organization relying on your support to end this cruelty.  Every donation -- no matter what size -- gets us closer to our goal.
