A wild horse has the same capacity to feel pain, fear and suffering as any native or domestic animal. Their lives deserve the same dignity and respect.
Protecting native species and sensitive ecosystems is important, but it should not require Brumbies to be chased by helicopters, shot from the air or on the ground, or sent to knackeries for slaughter. These methods inflict immense suffering and are deeply distressing to the majority of Australians.
This is not a choice between conservation and compassion. Humane alternatives exist, including fertility control, rehoming, sanctuary placement and other non-lethal management strategies.
We can protect native species without resorting to practices that cause unnecessary suffering.
I urge your government to end the slaughter of Brumbies and commit to humane, non-lethal solutions that protect both the environment and the animals that call these landscapes home.
