GROUNDED IN SCIENCE – TRULY MAGICAL
At Equitation Science International, the mission is to educate horse riders and handlers in equitation science to enable efficiency and safety in all horse/interactions.
Equitation Science is an emerging field that explains why horses behave as they do, their biomechanical patterns and limitations and on this template, how we can modify horse behaviour.
It explains what is likely to work and what is unlikely to work in horse training, and how we can communicate more effectively with horses.
Equitation Science is not an ideology but rather a body of knowledge that provides evidence-based ‘first principles’ that ensure safety, efficiency, best-practice welfare and ultimately sustainability.
It informs all disciplines and ideologies of horse training and horse sports in a non-partisan way, and privileges horse welfare as the top priority.
The Diploma of Equitation Science is a horse training and coaching qualification that provides a full understanding of horse training and enables the most effective pathways to all equestrian disciplines and activities.
WILL E.S.I. WORK FOR ME & MY HORSE?
I first heard of Equitation Science through a friend who saved a horse that had been ‘butchered’ by a ‘push and pull’ trainer and could no longer be stopped or turned using rein pressure – 17 plus hands of runaway train! She couldn’t even think of entering a dressage arena.
At the same time, it broke my heart to realise that my own little dressage pony did not trust me, even after five years of working and competing together. Without that trust we couldn’t advance in training.
Why?
Why did her aids not work?
Why did my pony not trust?
We went looking for answers and found Equitation Science – described by its founder as “a body of knowledge that provides evidence-based ‘first principles’ that ensure safety, efficiency, best-practice welfare and ultimately sustainability.”
We can both attest to that!
My friend’s horse became a gentle giant obedient to the slightest touch, winning in the dressage arena.
My dressage pony was soon so trusting that he learned the piaffe in three days, impressing an international judge. And all with no initial bucking and rearing – a huge feat as dressage riders will know.
Years later, I had the opportunity to try the method with a shy, sweet little brumby. She understood straight away what I was asking and we connected instantly. An amazingly beautiful moment that I will treasure for the rest of my life.
The concept is simple, the steps simpler than you would believe and the results, though grounded in science, truly magical.
We all owe it to our horses to speak their language and Equitation Science truly does.

YOU CAN HELP STOP THIS BARBARIC INHUMANE SLAUGHTER
A wild horse has the same capacity to feel pain and fear as a native animal, and their lives deserve the same level of dignity and respect.
We need to find a way to protect the native animals at risk, without hunting down Brumbies with helicopters, ground shooting or hauling them to be slaughtered at knackeries.
We urge you to join us in demanding the NSW government stop this cruel cull and adopt humane, non-lethal solutions.
1. Contact the PM & the MPs responsible: Make your voice heard! Demand an end to your tax dollars being used to massacre Brumbies.
